St John’s children showed the true spirit of sportsmanship this morning at Clive Cross Country. An impressive field of 21 runners from our school completed a tough mile-long course – five children participating for the first time. Although we didn’t place in the top three of the overall schools competition, our Year 5/6 girls won their team event whilst several of our runners had high placing finishes. Tim and Jack Viner placed 1st and 3rd in the fun run too!

However, our real success came from the team spirit and camaraderie of our children. Alfie and Emily (Year 6) both deserve commending for the care they showed teammates who had fallen / needed help; Alfie and Emily both forgot their own race, stopped / went back and supported their friends (before continuing and completing the races successfully!)

Ruyton celebrated Sports Relief in style today! We dressed up in our sports clothes and completed a one-mile run as a whole school. The children loved supporting and cheering each other around the course whilst staff enjoyed the morning exercise! Great effort all round.

Our fantastic children are at it again! They had a great win in the local area Dodgeball competition at the Corbet this evening against 5 local schools. Caitlyn, Lexie, Ellie, Will, Alfie, Oli, Max and Billy dodged and dived their way through back to back wins. Well done team, you did us proud as always with your skill and sportsmanship.

Brilliant news for our U11 school football team this evening who have made it to the Shropshire Small Schools County Final for the first time!

They’ve played four matches this evening to go through to the final against Longden which is due to be played at Shrewsbury Town Football Club’s stadium later in the year.

The boys have been true sportsmen all year and deserve this exciting end to our football year. Well done Will, Jack, Alfie, Will, Max, Oli, Billy and Rory. County Final dates to be confirmed soon!

Sadly one goal stood between St Johns and a trip to Greenhouse Meadow this evening after four close matches: two wins, a loss and a draw. Well done to Will, Will, Jack, Max, Rory, Alfie, Billy and Oli – you did our school proud.
