Dragonfly Class – Tuesday 9th June

Morning all 🙂

I hope you all enjoyed your work on World Oceans Day. In school I had a day catching up on maths activities with Liam and Harry from Dragonfly Class – remember that we leave all the previous work up so feel free to catch up if you’ve missed anything and have time to do so now. It was a lovely day in school – we even tackled the PE shed! Harry was far braver with spiders than me 🕷👏🏼

Here are today’s activities:

  1. English: Bitesize tasks today. If Bitesize doesn’t work for you, have a go at this activity pack.

Y4 -Mastering Inverted Commas

Y5 – Writing Direct & Indirect speech

Grammar – Home Learning pack

2. Spellings: Learn your year group list below (feel free to have a look at other year groups). Challenge: Test yourself each day to see how many you’ve really remembered…then focus on the ones you haven’t.

Rabbits – home learning for 9th June

Good Morning Rabbits

I hope you are all well.  Maybe you are doing the Jo Wicks work-out each day?  I have been doing it on some of the days – it is quite a challenge!  I have also been doing Yoga and going on a long walk each day to stay fit.  Let me know what you are doing – bike riding, sailing, running.

Spellings:  the words are tricky this week but worth learning as they all fit with the theme of sports.

English:  You can either access the bbc bitesize lesson today – or you can continue with the plans for a story and look at the attachment for creating a character profile.

Character Profile

It is always fun to imagine your own story characters and to plan what they would be like and what they would do.  Use this sheet to help gather up your wonderful ideas.

Maths:  I have set some daily work on my maths if you are happy to follow that programme, but here are the tasks for today on the Whiterose – more fractions for both year 2 and year 3.

Year 2 lesson 2 answers

Year 2 Lesson 2 maths

Year 3 lesson 2 answers

year 3 lesson 2 maths

Project:  Yesterday, I asked you to create a front page for the project and design a sports pitch using your fractions.  Today, I would like you to make up a sports game all of your own.  You can then set out the rules of the game using bullet points, and the purpose of the game.  Please include the following things in your planning list or mind map.

  • A pitch, surface, field or court where the game is played
  • The number of players that are in each team
  • The bat, club or other thing that is used to hit the ball (or whatever object they hit)
  • A ball or object to hit
  • A goal of some type
  • You need a good name for your sport and then you can write out the rules that you decide.

Remember:  J K Rowling made up the game of Quidditch for her Harry Potter books.  Here is a short clip for you to watch:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A6z7R-aaDw

Other authors have made up sports in their books:  Can you find out the name of the race in Alice in Wonderland?  use this to help:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8MUMO1RJws

I hope you have fun inventing a new sport!

See you tomorrow

Mrs Cooke

I hope you had a lovely weekend. I hope the sun comes back soon so we can get back into our gardens! It’s been great to see you all settling back into home learning after the half term holiday. Remember not to worry about cramming all the work in, doing short bursts of work might be better for you than sitting for a longer period of time. Whatever works best for you and your family!

I hope you enjoy this weeks tasks.

Dragonfly Class – Monday 8th June

Morning all 🙂

How have your weekends been? It seems to have flown by for me. I’ve had a couple of little runs with Briar – one where I heard a voice calling, “Hey Miss Whit!” Just in time I saw Archie waving – it was lovely to see him having fun outside but Briar had no intention of stopping! I hope you’ve all had something to smile about 🙂

Here are today’s activities:

  1. English: Here is your final lesson on News Reports to complete last week’s sequence of work. I look forward to seeing what you have been able to produce!

Other ideas:

  1. PE: Usually on a Monday we have our PE lessons so make a good effort on some sporting activity to day if you can! How about a good walk or bike ride?

2. World Oceans Day: Having read about this event in your reading activity, can you now create a piece of art / craft to bring attention to World Ocean Day. I’m in school today however if I had the time at home I would try making a turtle puppet using the instructions from the puppetry website that Anouk shared last week.. You could create a persuasive video or a poster – it’s up to you.

Happy Monday,

Miss Whit 🙂

Rabbits – home learning for 8th June

Good Morning Rabbits

This week I have found some interesting activities for you on different websites and hope that you enjoy doing the tasks.

Spellings:  as usual, I would like you to look at the spelling page and write out the new words for this week.  Remember to use this time to practice your lovely handwriting too.

Maths:  You can access the white rose maths but if you prefer, there are daily maths tasks on MyMaths for you.  Just do one of them each day.

English:  You can either do the BBC Bitesize today, or you can do this task that I have linked below:  Story Generator year 2 and Year 3

Grammar:  Please look at the link to your year group for the grammar tasks today.

Grammar Task  Year 2

Punctuation Tasks Year 3

Project:  This week it will be Games and Sports.  I know some of you will have seen that the sporting events around our country have been cancelled but that they are gradually going to be starting up again.  I am pleased about this – my husband is a big fan of Liverpool Football Club and wants them to win the championship by playing out the last few games, my mum is a huge Wimbledon tennis fan and will miss seeing her favourite players this summer, I will miss the cricket – I love watching the test matches.  So this week we will be doing activities all about sport and games that you enjoy.

Can you find pictures of all the bats, rackets, clubs or nets that you use in various games.  I have included a montage here below.  I would like you to begin the project with some drawing to create a front page for your booklet with drawings of as many different bats etc that you can find.

sport bats

Next:  using the knowledge that you all have of fractions, I would like you to create your own sports pitch.  It could be grass or tarmac, it needs to be a rectangle.  Within the shape you need to make two halves and within the halves you need to make two quarters.  You can then make any other fractions of the main pitch and explain what these are for – they might be areas where you score extra points, or where certain players cannot enter.  See what you can do with fractions on a sports pitch.

Have a great day
