Hedgehogs Home Learning – Monday 14th December

🎄 Good Morning Hedgehogs at home! 🎄

We’ve only got one week left in school before we start our Christmas holidays, so all your home learning this week has a Christmassy theme! 🎅

Phonics:

Have a go at playing this Christmas tree phonics game. Look carefully at the words and pictures on the baubles. Place each bauble onto the Christmas tree that shows the matching letter sound.

Christmas Crafts:

In class today we are going to be making Christmas cards. We liked the look of these ones. Don’t worry if you don’t have pom poms or googley eyes, you can use paint or a pen and draw them on instead.

I hope you have a good day!

Hedgehog wreath making

Some of the children in Hedgehog class enjoyed making a Christmas wreath today.

We made one wreath from tinsel and another with foliage. They were easy to do (we wound the tinsel or willow/foliage) around the frame and ta-da!

If you would like to make one with your child at home, please let us know and we will send home the metal ring that you will need to get going. Simply follow our picture instructions or get creative and design your own. We’d love to see photos of the finished results.884DF8BE-2DD5-4B60-A4AF-936B2CA32A3A 0084E9F3-82AE-446E-B50A-1D957D5B260B

Friends of School ‘Christmas tree’ competition

Thank you to everyone who entered our ‘Friends of School’ Christmas tree competition.

We had lots of wonderful entries from children who have made a Christmas tree in so many different ways. We were very impressed!

The photos of the entries are in the windows at the front of school if you’d like to see them, but here they are if you are unable to get to school to see them. Please note that entries with children’s faces on are not displayed in the windows.

There is a winner from each class, chosen by the children on our Fun and Games Council. The judges didn’t know who each entry belonged to as we removed the children’s faces and names from their entries! All of the winners will be announced in worship by Mrs Ball on Monday next week.

On behalf of The Friends Of St John the Baptist Primary School, thank you to everyone who has taken part.

Congratulations Matthew

Congratulations to Matthew in Owl Class for being nominated and then selected for pupil of the month for November by his Your Space Music trumpet teacher Chris.  Here is what Matthew’s teacher said about him:

‘A huge nomination for Matthew to be pupil of the month! He works so hard, by far one of my best students and his rate of improvement has been fantastic. I call him my little scale demon!  A comfortable merit on his first grade exam is very much deserved.’

Fantastic news Matthew and very well-deserved.  Enjoy spending your prize voucher – I think I can guess what on!

Hedgehog Class Homework 1st-16th December 2020

We are busy learning Christmas songs for our Nativity performance in class. We are going to film the performance and put it on the school website soon, as detailed in the letter on Parentmail you had from Mrs Ball.

In addition we are hoping to hold a Christingle celebration in school on 17th December and there are lots of songs for the children to learn for this. As your homework for the next two weeks, please watch the YouTube videos below and help your child to learn these traditional Christmas carols that the children will be singing at our Christingle.

We would love for parents and families to join in too so please enjoy these together!

Thank you

Good Morning Hedgehogs!

I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, here is your home learning for Monday:

Phonics:

This link will take you to the phonics lesson.

Your lesson will be uploaded at 10am. If you feel like you need a bit of extra practice there is another lesson at 11:00am that focuses on blending sounds. After they have been uploaded the videos are available to view at any time throughout the day.

If you’re struggling to concentrate for the full video, try doing it in sections and have a break between each bit.

English:

It’s not long until Christmas now, and I’m sure you’ve been thinking about what you would like Father Christmas to bring you. You might have already written your letter to Father Christmas but I’m a bit nosey and would love to see what you’ve asked for!! You can use this template to help you.

Letter to FC

Maths:

Today we’re having another practice at using the greater than sign (the one that looks like a crocodiles’ mouth <). Remember the crocodile wants to eat the bigger number so the big open mouth end needs to point towards the bigger number.

Sally the alligator is very hungry and loves to eat more fish. Cut out the pictures of Sally the alligator and glue them in the boxes (making sure her mouth is open towards the side with the most fish!)

Science:

We’ve been busy all term learning about animals and humans, and today we are lucky enough to join in with a virtual trip to Chester Zoo! The live stream starts at 2pm on this link Primary Science: Creatures and Colour – Live Lesson – BBC Teach

Use what you have learned from the live lesson to complete this booklet:

Why are animals different colours?

I hope you have a lovely day, any problems let me know 🙂
