The Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 children were very busy looking signs of spring at forest school today. They were also busy looking for buds on the trees. The children have been making observations of how the forest school site changes throughout the year as part of their science work on “Seasons”. We can’t wait to put all of the photos that we have collected across the year together and see how the site has changed!
It’s great to have some beautiful sunny days again! The reception children took full advantage of the sunshine on Friday afternoon during their child initiated time. Look at all of those gross motor skills being developed! They were also developing their personal and social skills by sharing and taking turns. Well done Reception!
We are delighted to announce that our Year 6 musician, Matthew, came 2nd place with distinction in the 12 and under category for solo brass at the Oswestry Music Festival at the weekend.
He had some super feedback from the adjudicators and really enjoyed the experience. Matthew told us,
“I thought that I wouldn’t do so well after I heard that much more experienced people were playing.”
His older sister, Elizabeth (a previous pupil of Ruyton who is now in Year 7), also achieved a fantastic 2nd place! Well done Matthew and Elizabeth – we are really proud of you both.
Today we welcomed Reverend Burns into school to lead our daily Worship. Owl Class children were involved in some acting too to deliver the message about honesty through the story of Peter (and a little help from Pinocchio!)
We had a super day on World Book Day. We shared our favourite stories, we had a book scavenger hunt, we took part in a BBC teach live lesson with lots of other schools all about stories and how they are structured and we even got to have story time with Mrs Ball!
The EYFS children put on their cutest chefs hats and whisked up some delicious pancakes on Wednesday afternoon. They weighed the ingredients as a group and mixed them altogether. They then very carefully cooked their pancakes and even managed to flip them! They smelt delicious! I think that the eating bit was their favourite part!
During the week before half term, all of the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 participated in some Balance Bikeability training. The children had a fantastic time learning to ride a balance bike and playing lots of games! They also learnt to have awareness of other riders around them too. The course also prepared them for Bikeability Level 1 which they will complete in KS2. Here they are below with their certificates and some very big grins!
All of the children (and staff!) looked amazing in their World Book Day costumes yesterday! They enjoyed listening to various stories throughout the day and loved making their own bookmarks!
Look at this incredible piece of artwork that the children in Hedgehog Class have created this term! They did a study of an artist (Van Gogh) and learnt lots of new skills including using different brushes and brushstrokes and combining materials. Then they all had a part of the Starry Night painting to recreate and we put it together for them. We think the final piece looks amazing!
We just LOVED World Book Day! A particular highlight this year was a live lesson from the author Michael Rosen; he had us all laughing but bamboozled us with some great tips for writing and learning spellings. Here we are in our splendour!
