Today in Maths, the Reception children had a teddy bear’s picnic. They were learning how to share objects into equal groups. Mrs Farmer gave them a certain amount of food and they had to share them equally between all of the teddy bears that were at the picnic. There was some fantastic mathematical problem solving and reasoning going on during this session. Well done team!

The Village Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
It was just wonderful to see the school grounds filled with so many people enjoying the Village Jubilee Celebrations on Saturday. On behalf of the school, we would like to say a huge well done and thank you to the organisers for bringing everyone together – this includes our Chair of Governors, Keith Lister, and his wife Alyson. Alyson also continues to help keep our sensory garden which many people commented on as we all enjoyed the school grounds in the sunshine. We thank you both. In case you missed it, here is the School Hall and our children’s work in all its royal glory !
Jubilee Picnic 🇬🇧 👑
We enjoyed a delicious Jubilee Picnic on the last day of half term – the sun shone as we replenished our energy levels after the Fun Run! As you can see; it was red, white and blue with smiles all round!
We hope you enjoy your Platinum Jubilee celebrations as much as we did in school this week.
Jubilee Fun Run
We had a brilliant day of Jubilee celebrations on Friday with a Jubilee Fun Run! Dressed in red, white and blue, the whole school got warmed up and took part in a sponsored run, organised by the Friends of Ruyton.
We were delighted to welcome Mr & Mrs Gittins to the event to not only start the races, but join in too!
Thank you to Mr & Mrs Gittins for spending the morning with the children and also Mrs Aspinall & Mrs Beddoes for their help on the day. We can’t wait to find out how much money was raised!
Owl Class Jubilee Homework 🌟🌟🌟
The homework effort for our Jubilee Project has blown us away this week! A huge well done to all the children who spent their time making some incredible pieces of work to show the last 70 years: the RAF, farming, football and climate change were just some of the themes are children chose. These brilliant pieces will be on display at the Village Jubilee Party in the school hall on Saturday 4th June.
Owl Class: Pencil-sketch portraits of The Queen
This week, in celebration of the Jubilee, Owl Class have developed their sketching skills to create these portraits. Well done Owls!
They will be displayed at the Ruyton Village Jubilee Celebration on Saturday 4th June.
Online safety for parents and families – updates & Parent Zone
In the latest Computing Network for staff, Shropshire Council speakers shared these great resources. The first is a snapshot from Ofcom who have released the 2022 findings from their research into Media Use and Attitudes to raise awareness of what children may be accessing.
Also, they shared a brilliant website ‘Parent Zone’ which gives clear guidance about how to manage safety features on different apps / programmes whilst giving further details about how they work. It’s really useful to stay up-to-date in the ever-changing world of technology. Check out the link below :

Artful RE
This term in RE, the children in Hedgehog Class have been learning about how they can make a difference in the world. Part of this work has been based on charity work and what we can do to help. We have then linked this to charity work that has been done by people of faith. This week, the children were exploring the story of St Francis of Assisi and his belief that all God’s creatures were special and should be loved and cared for. We then thought of animals that we would particularly like to love and care for, thinking about our recent learning about extinct and endangered animals. The children then started to make some fantastic models using clay of the animal that they would want to love and care for the most. Look at this super work! Well done everyone!
Creative Maths!
Some of the younger children in the class have had a great time learning all about doubling this morning in their maths lesson. Look how creative they were creating beautiful butterflies to find number doubles to 10!
Planting Sunflower Seeds
It’s been a busy couple of weeks in Science for the Year 1 children. Earlier this term, they all planted their own sunflower seed and they’ve been caring for them and watching them grow ever since. We can’t wait to see how big they get!
