Trip to Shrewsbury Museum – Dragonfly Class
Today Dragonfly Class went to Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery to find out more about Charles Darwin. In the morning, we went on a walk around Shrewsbury town centre to look at significant places in his life including the Quarry, St Chads Church and his old school which is now Shrewsbury Library. In the afternoon, we looked around the museum and discovered more about his theory of evolution. Finally, we used quills and ink to do some observational drawing of some of the specimens from the museum. We had a great day and many of the children were keen to return to the museum to see all of the other exhibits that we didn’t have time to fit in. The museum is free to visit and a fascinating place to find out more about Shropshire’s rich history.
Wonderland!
Hedgehog Class have had the most fantastic day at Wonderland, Telford today! We visited the houses of various Traditional Tale characters, went on some fun rides and took part in a brilliant storytelling session with the Mad Hatter! This has all helped to enhance the work that we have been doing in class on Traditional Tales this term. We were shown some new ones that the children didn’t know as well so, we’ll be learning them over the next few weeks. The children have all had a great day and made us incredibly proud of their behaviour! Well done team!
Wonderland, Telford have kindly given each child in Hedgehog Class a free return ticket which expires in September. These will be handed out to the children tomorrow.

The whole school:
Palm Sunday
This week, we have been learning about Palm Sunday in RE. The children have joined in with role play, made their own flags, written “Hosanna” on palm leaves and decorated them, built the gateway to Jerusalem using Duplo and painted pictures of Jesus arriving in Jerusalem. They’ve had a great time and know so much more about Christian beliefs around Easter already!
3D Shapes
Today we started learning about 3D shapes. We learnt the names of cone, cube, cuboid, pyramid, sphere and cylinder. These were all new words for lots of the children but they managed really well! We talked about some of the properties of the shapes which would help us to identify the name of the shape. The children were then set the challenge of sorting the shapes into 2 different groups, thinking of their own criteria. Well done all!

World Book Day in Bumblebees
What a wonderful World Book Day we had in Bumblebees.
We read lots of stories, did lots of role playing, we discussed our favourite book characters and we learnt about the parts of a book and what authors and illustrators do.
At the end of the day we joined Hedgehog Class and had a fabulous story session with the children’s author Teresa Heapy. The children really enjoyed listening to her story ‘Very Little Cinderella’. The children then joined in with a song and Teresa introduced her puppet friends Very Little Red Riding Hood and Foxie.
What an exciting day! The children are already deciding what they’d like to dress up as for World Book Day 2024.
