Please click on the link below to find out what the children in Hedgehog Class will be learning this term…
Hedgehogs Spring 2020 Overview of activities
Forest school will continue to be on Wednesday mornings. Any volunteers to come with us would be greatly appreciated! Please ensure that your child is dressed in appropriate clothing. Waterproofs, wellies and coats are a must. Please also try to make sure that your child has hats and gloves when the weather is colder.
PE will continue on Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure that your child has named PE kits that will be kept in school throughout the term. It is a good idea to include joggers and jumpers during the colder months.
We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead!
Maths
We were straight back to it in Maths today. We were learning to represent numbers, put numbers on a number line and place numbers in order. Here are some of the reception children representing numbers using numicon…
Cinderella Rockerfella 2019
What a show! A huge well done to our KS2 children for a fantastic performance of this year’s Christmas production ‘Cinderella Rockerfella’. They danced, sang, acted with energy and even improvised throughout – we couldn’t be prouder of you . Thank you to all our school families for supporting us in putting the production together.
Next event: Christingle, Tuesday 17th.
A Christmas Carol
Rabbits got into the Christmas spirit with their improvised version of A Christmas Carol. We have been studying the book in our Guided Reading sessions and today, the children each took a main role as we presented the whole story. Well done Rabbits!
Pizza Making
Last week the year 1 children really enjoyed making some healthy vegetable pizzas. They put all of their new skills that they had learnt to the test to prepare the vegetables. They then took them home to cook and eat…. luckily most of them enjoyed what they had made!
Letters to Santa
Last week hedgehog class wrote letters to Santa as part of our English topic. Today we went for a walk in the village to post the letters off the Santa’s headquarters. We’re all hoping that our replies will arrive before the end of term!
It’s about time!
Rabbits are busy learning about time, how long things take, how clocks show times in different ways and having fun with time related games. In topic, we have been learning about the different food that Victorians ate, and how that is different to our diets. The children wrote their own recipe books for Apple Dumplings, Trifle and Kedgeree – but nobody wanted to try rice, fish and fried eggs for their breakfast!
Everyone worked really hard on their Quest stories and they are now finished. The children’s writing shows great imagination.
Next week we are continuing learning about Victorian food, treats and parties and as we approach Christmas we will be learning about the origins of our own Christmas traditions. We will continue with Time as our maths topic and look at Roman Numeral clocks, digital clocks and other ways of showing time passing.
We are very excited to welcome a visitor to our school on Monday, Mr Davies is an Actor, storyteller and teacher who is coming to act as some Dickensian characters as we begin learning about Charles Dickens and his writing. The children will become journalist for the morning and will be interviewing the characters for their newspaper report. The Christmas tree is up in our Victorian Library looking very pretty indeed.
Rain Gauges
Last week at forest school, we all made our own rain gauges. This week we took some rulers with us so that the children could measure how much rain we had had this week. When we got to the site, some of us found that our rain gauges had fallen over! This gave us a really good opportunity to explore other ways of making sure that they stay upright. Luckily some rain gauges did stay upright this week so we were able to measure each other’s. We then used leaves on a stick to record how many centimetres of rain we had measured.
