Some of the younger children in the class have had a great time learning all about doubling this morning in their maths lesson. Look how creative they were creating beautiful butterflies to find number doubles to 10!

Planting Sunflower Seeds
It’s been a busy couple of weeks in Science for the Year 1 children. Earlier this term, they all planted their own sunflower seed and they’ve been caring for them and watching them grow ever since. We can’t wait to see how big they get!
Forest School
What a fantastic forest school session the children have had today! 🤩 They had a very busy afternoon doing “mud mining” and water collecting. They carried the mud and water to the water barrel where they filled it up and made the base secure. They all worked really hard and there was some fantastic team working going on! Well done team! 🌟
Planning an Audio Book
This term in Computing, the Year 1 & 2 children are creating an audio book. They spent some time comparing the similarities and differences between hard copies of books, eBooks and audio books.
This week, we listened to an audio version of the story “Tiddalik”. We listened really carefully to different sound effects that were used in the story. Then we read the story Cinderella and thought about the different sound effects that we could use for this story. The children were put into pairs and were given a page of the story each to plan as an audio book. They had a fantastic time exploring the different musical instruments in the music room. I can’t wait to hear the finished audio book!

Computing
Since February half term, the Year 1 & 2 children have become illustrators in computing. They have been learning how to use various different tools on a paint programme. After learning all of these new skills (including how to save their work!), they were then challenged to create illustrations for the story “Little Red Riding Hood”.

Map work at Forest School
This week at forest school, the children in Hedgehog Class drew their own map of the forest, plotting land marks such as gates, the fire pit, the shelter, badger set and so on. This was not an easy task but they did a fabulous job!
Next week, Kris will hide Easter eggs and then put crosses on the children’s maps so that they can find them. What an fantastic set of skills for them to learn!
