Rabbits – home learning for Thursday 21st May

Good Morning Rabbits

I got the job  of shopping for my family yesterday, and I was so excited to be out – but also to see the huge range of food that I can buy that comes from around the world.  The project today will be thinking about our multi-cultural food.  Please check over your spellings as I will pop a test on the page tomorrow.

Brainteaser:  I have put in a wordsearch for you this morning – I think you all enjoy doing these.  Food Wordsearch

Maths: I have included the maths tasks from white rose below.

Year 2 – Lesson 4 Maths

Year 2 Lesson 4 Answers

Year 3 Lesson 4 Answers

Year 3 Lesson 4 Maths

Additionally, I would like you to do some practical maths – in order to price your food menus, it is useful to add up costs then divide them between the number of people who are eating.  So … I would like you to work out how much you should charge for a portion of cake – please look at the attached task and see how well you can use your knowledge of fractions to solve the puzzles.  Good luck!   Cake Brain Teasers

English:  Please access the BBC Bitesize for today’s lesson.

PSHE: Mrs Viner has posted a lovely note to us all about kindness.  For today, can you read her post and do some things linked to the idea of being kind?

Project: As I said at the start, I was amazed at the different foods available from all around the world – and just in my local supermarket!  There was a whole section of Greek food with amazing sesame breadsticks, stuffed vine leaves and ice-creams.  I saw Mexican Potatas Bravas and Lime and lemon cake, I also found multi-coloured pasta from Italy, Romanian Meat Balls, German Sausage and pickled cabbage and Turkish soft cheese.  So for today – you are going to select a country from the list below and do a poster for me of their most famous food and drink items.  I would love to see pictures that you have drawn and also writing that explains the type of foods they have.

So here are my suggested countries – but if you know others – please do your own choice:  My favourite food from Australia would have to be Fairy Bread – very easy to make – but I am not sure I would want to try Erwtensoep snert – which is from Holland!

Rabbits – Home Learning for 19th May

Good Morning Rabbits

I hope you had fun thinking about food yesterday!

English:  Please do the bitesize lesson today.  www.bbc.bitesize/homelearning

Maths:  Here are the links for the maths lessons for today.

Year 2 lesson 2 answers

Year 2 Lesson 2

Year 3 lesson 2 answers

Year 3 lesson 2

Reading:  I have selected another set of reading comprehensions related to food – these are for you to practice your comprehension and reading skills.   Viking Food and Cooking Questions               Viking Food and Cooking

Project:  To continue our project today I am going to get you to design a menu for your own restaurant.  This should be simple enough – except … I need you to write out a perfectly beautiful menu with your very best handwriting. You need to include starters or small portions of food, a main course and some puddings or dessert.  Ideally, you will write about 4 or 5 items for each.  I have included some menu blanks to use – or you can design your very own.  This is a handwriting task to begin with.

Food Borders

Design: I now want you to get thinking about pasta.  Pasta is an Italian food made from flour, eggs and water (and a bit of salt) but they make it into amazing shapes.  I would like you to look at this page of different pastas and then design your own shape.  This needs to be something that is personal to you – for example – I like Angels and Eagles so I might make wing-shaped pasta.  You could think about your favourite things and design the shape then create a picture of the pasta (so you need to repeat the design several times).  If you were able – you could even try to make your own pasta – recipe and method is included.

pasta pictures

I would like you to do a little bit of maths – imagine that you are preparing a plate full of your fabulous pasta for yourself and your family – how many of the pieces would you need?  You need to work out how large they are – and then work out how many would fit onto a plate.  If you draw around a plate – then draw your pasta shape and cut it out, then work out roughly how many times it will fit on the plate.

Rabbits Home Learning for 18th May

Good Morning Rabbits.  I hope you all had a lovely weekend.  I spent time in my garden doing some reading and I was lucky enough to get out and about on some very nice walks in the sunshine.  I hope you all had some fun too.

I have a new project idea for you this week – more about that later.

English:  The www.bbc.bitesize/homelearning is the place to be for their excellent lessons.  Please log in today.

Maths:  I have put up the White Rose maths for each year group below.  I have also included the answers – but don’t cheat! Each year group has a page showing video links to explain the tasks.  These are for the whole week of lessons.

Year 2 Lesson 1 Answers

Year 2 Lesson-1-Multiplication-sentences-using-the-x-symbol-2019

Year 2 Maths Video Links

Year 3 Lesson-1-Answers-Unit-and-non-unit-fractions-2019

Year 3 Lesson-1-Unit-and-non-unit-fractions-2019

Year-3 Video Links

Project:  This week’s project is going to be about food.  We will be looking at where you eat, what you eat, what you can cook, how we present and package food and how restaurants work.

Food Glorious Food:  this is a famous song from the musical Oliver but it is used in this lovely clip from Ice Age 2 – have a little look at the video and listen carefully to the words.

Your first task is to think about alliteration – which is using the same sound at the start of different words.  Blue Bucket,  Frilly Fairy – etc. I would like you to think about the foods I have listed below and add a word that describes it – but uses the same starting letter (or sound – for example c and k make the same sound)

cheese  apples  bananas  grapes  milk  pomegranate  cabbage  sausages  burgers  spaghetti  broccoli  yoghurt

See how you get on!

Reading:  The attached files have 3 levels of reading – * ** and *** for you to select.  They are all about Fairtrade – Reading Activities Y 2 and 3

Project:  I would like you to plan a design for your own place to eat – you might like to brainstorm all the places that you currently eat – at home, in the garden (picnics and bar-b-q’s) or maybe you get take-away food.  We also eat in odd places such as on boats, in caravans, in our school hall.  If you can remember when we were all able to go to restaurants and cafes, you could think about designing your own wonderful eating place.  You need to sort the following categories:

  • Type of food you will sell
  • Type of people (or animals) that will eat at your eatery
  • Type of seating they will need – be adventurous!
  • Type of plates, cutlery or other things from which they can eat
  • What you will call your eatery.

You could use a whole piece of paper for your brainstorming, you could add cut out pictures of things that inspire you – or you can draw your ideas – gather as much information as you can to continue this later in the week.

You can design this however you wish – but remember that during the week we will be building on this and will be looking at making menus, designing a logo and packaging and making unique dishes.

I have added a few pictures from pintrest that might help with your inspiration if you need it.

Rabbits Home Learning for Thursday 14th May

Good morning Rabbits.  Thank you for sending in your work from Tuesday and Wednesday.  Keep it coming!

Project:  I wanted you to do some maths and drawing as part of your project today – I would like you to firstly select your favourite flying object as this will be your ‘main character’ for the game.  It can be anything that flies.

Your flying character is going on a journey.  You will need:  the picture of the world map that is attached.  A pencil and paper; a lot of imagination!

Your character is going to fly to different locations across the world and land there.  Your job is to measure how far they have travelled and then do a dotty map of where their journey took them.  It might start in Shropshire and a dotted line will take them all the way to Southern France – then on to Morocco or over to Egypt – or you could do a different journey and go to the North.  The important thing is that you draw the journey out and name what cities or towns (or famous locations) your flying character has visited.

https://geology.com/world/world-map.shtml

Now in order to measure distance – you can use this handy website.  It asks you to type in the starting location and then the end location and it gives you the miles. You will have to write the days or hours journey time on your line and at the end, you will have to try to add it all up- but don’t do that just yet!

https://www.freemaptools.com/how-far-is-it-between.htm

(change the sliding button to miles not km)

You can have some fun selecting amazing places that your flying object could visit – I have also included this website as it shows the 7 wonders of the world – you might think your character would visit some of these – or visit countries that you have already been to – or heard about.

https://www.history.com/topics/ancient-history/sevens-wonders-of-the-ancient-world

https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/seven-wonders-of-the-world

Spelling Test:  Yes, it’s that time again!  Have a look at the page on Spellings and see if you can circle the correct spelling please.  Good luck.

Maths:  I have the lesson for today attached: Y3  Lesson 4 Scaling 2019

y2 lesson 4

English:  Once again please use the BBC Bitesize.

I think that is enough for today!  I have set you a lot of work for the project today and it should be interesting to find out all about the 7 wonders of the world.  If you would like more to do – here is a reading task about two of those places.

Well it is quite a bit colder here today and I missed my walk yesterday as it was awful outside!  I hope you all got busy with your usual activities and enjoyed yourselves.

For today:

Handwriting:  Please re-copy your spellings but find a sentence that uses each of the words.  Make sure you are keeping those long and short letters the right height and that you are doing your best to join the writing,.  Thank you.

Reading:  Another story for today for you to read and then answer some of the questions.  I hope you are enjoying these.

Year 3: http://www.magickeys.com/books/beaver/index.html

Project:  I loved seeing the front pages of your new project book and loved hearing about the amazing things you have seen flying around.

For today:  Please can you get a bit creative and use the form that I have included to design and explain how to build your own flying invention.  It can be absolutely anything but your plan must include:

  • the machine’s name
  • what it is made from
  • where it can fly
  • how it works
  • how big or small it is
  • how far it can travel

Please also draw a picture of the invention and include this in the box provided.

Rabbits – Home Learning for 11th May

Good Morning Rabbits.

I hope you are all well and that you enjoyed the long weekend – you possibly did some celebrating of the V E Day anniversary.

Back to the learning week – and I have selected a good brain teaser for you to begin with today.  Brain teaser

Maths:  please follow the White Rose maths class today.  As an additional maths activity you could do the following:  Challenge A is for year 3 (as it is really hard!) and Year 2 should do the Y2 maths challenge.

groupchallengeA

Y2 Maths challenge

English:  Please link to the BBC Bitesize for today’s English lesson.

Spellings:  I hope you got on well with the spelling test last week and you could identify the correct spellings in each row.  This week’s spelling words are on the spelling page so please look at those and copy out in your best writing.  Do three of each word please.

Reading: I have selected another story for you.  This story is a bit unusual but it is about trust and friendship.  http://www.magickeys.com/books/atlas/index.html  When you have finished reading the story, can you write down five things that would make you feel scared or nervous of letting go?  Would you think the same things as the boy in the story?

Weekly project:  I have loved seeing all of your work on the weekly projects and I have been wracking my brains to find a good topic for us all to do this week.  I have chosen for us to study “Things That Fly”.  Now these might be natural things (such as bugs, birds and bats) or they might be mechanical things (helicopters, planes, gliders etc).  So for today, the start of the project, you need a front page and I would like you to draw and label as many things that fly as you can possibly think of.  Remember that you can look back into history at the first flying machines, or think about any toys that you have that can fly.  Please fill the page and see how many unusual things you can find.  I have included some websites for inspiration (and amazement!).

Rabbits – Home learning for Thursday 7th May 2020

Good morning Rabbits.

Well today is the last learning day of the week as tomorrow is VE Day and a bank holiday.  I have found a few different activities to suggest for you today and they might just be something you can do over the weekend as they are fun too.

Cloudbusting: The Met Office have sent over some suggestions for watching the weather.  This one is for looking at clouds – I am sure you have noticed them before so how interesting to learn a little bit more about them.  The website is www.metoffice.gov.uk.  I have then clicked on links to weather and climate – DIY activities and cloud spotting (if the link below does not get you straight there.

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/binaries/content/assets/metofficegovuk/pdf/weather/learn-about/met-office-for-schools/diy-activities/cloud-spotting-diy-activity.pdf

English:  Please see the daily activity from BBC Bitesize for today.  Also there are some ‘rainy day’ grammar games still set for you on Education City.

Maths:  White Rose Hub offer a good activity today, please tune into that.  Please take the TT Rock Stars challenge too.  I have also attached this file of different maths problems and puzzles – I suggest you scroll through and see one that you like then work through the problem.  They are real brain-teasers!

Maths Puzzles and Problems

Reading:  Year 2:  Take a look at this story which is written for your age group by Carol Moore.  It is called “It could happen!”  http://www.magickeys.com/books/happen/index.html

The illustrations are rather beautiful but I wonder if you could all do a great drawing of your surroundings – the village or town where you are at the moment, the walks that you go on – and colour it all one colour – like in the story.  See if you could then re-colour it a different colour – what would it be like to have only one colour outside?

Year 3: I have chosen for you “The Master Artist”  also written by Carol Moore.  It is a short story but there are some words in green – if you click on these, you will be taken to another page of explanations and background information.  At the end, you can test your knowledge with a quiz.   http://www.magickeys.com/books/artist/index.html

Spelling Test:  I suppose you thought that I had forgotten?  So for a test – I have included a page of spellings – I need you to highlight or circle the correct spelling of each word.  There are 3 spellings for each – two are incorrect – see if you can spot them.  Good luck!

Have a lovely day tomorrow.
