Class Owls News
Children in Need Total!
On Friday 18th November we had a SPOTacular day raising money for Children in Need. Everyone looked brilliant in their non-uniform / spotty outfits whilst we all enjoyed the scrumptious bakes that came in for our Bake Sale.
Thank you to EVERYONE who donated (cakes or money!) – we are thrilled to announce that we raised a whopping £220-54! Well done to the Fun & Games School Council for organising such a great event.
Owl Class trip to Shropshire Archives
Owl Class enjoyed a very informative visit to Shropshire Archives on Monday afternoon. As part of our Local History topic, we explored some of the resources held at the archives to learn more about our village but also its history in the world wars. As well as this, we were also able to enjoy a guided tour of the archives too and learn how they preserve the documents there – some of which date back to 800AD! Well done Owl Class for taking part with such enthusiasm and respect.
Advent 2022 – Owl Class
This morning our Owl Class pupils enjoyed a workshop provided by Reverend Hannah and Reverend Lucinda along with volunteers from the Church group to celebrate and think about the upcoming period of Advent.
The children had a very enjoyable morning taking part in a range of practical activities which encouraged them to reflect about their own hopes along with the advent themes of peace, love and joy.
A big thank you to all the volunteers for making the event happen, we look forward to the next one!
Basketball Tournament at the Corbet
A squad of our pupils represented St John’s at the local area basketball tournament this week. As a school, we finished 5th behind two teams from Baschurch and Myddle out of 10 teamsin total.
We are really proud of our squad, particularly our Year 4 pupil Devon who stepped in at the last minute to help out. Well done to George, Arthur, Jamie, Alice, Mia and Devon!

Remembrance in Owl Class
We spent the week learning about the meaning of Remembrance, particularly focusing on World War One and the work of Wilfred Owen. Please enjoy a selection of our work below including some art work we are in the process of completing.
Remembrance Poetry – George
We’ve been thinking about the world wars and Remembrance this week.
Please enjoy Year 6 George’s poetic response which earned him a Headteacher’s Award. An incredibly poignant poem where George has managed it show his own perspective on war. Well done George – what a talent.
EFL Cup – Montgomery Meadow Football
Our football team had a great session out today where they participated in the STFC EFL Cup. They managed to keep very close score-lines on the day, drawing 1-1 with Apley Wood but losing 1-0 to West Felton and 3-1 to St Giles. The boys showed brilliant team spirit and did us proud. A special congratulations to Jackson for his exemplary sportsmanship, Andreas for his determination in goal and also Jamie for his skilful play and for scoring two goals.
Thank you to Jonny and the team at STFC for hosting such a great event!
