Hello Hedgehogs,

For this weeks homework I’d like you to have a go at completing this Firework Safety Quiz

It’s bonfire night this Thursday and sometimes adults will set off fireworks and light bonfires at home. These can be dangerous and you have to be very sensible when you’re around them. I know you are all very sensible and will keep yourself and others safe with your knowledge!

I’d also like you to have a go at designing your own firework – I can’t wait to see your creations!

This week we will be looking at subtraction. Today you will be taking away and working out how many are left. When you are taking away, practise crossing out the number of objects that you are taking away so you can see how many you’ve got left.

Our new book is ‘The Three Little Pigs’. I want you to have a think about what is going to happen in the story. Have a look at the front cover of the story.

Maths:

Today you will be practising adding more by counting on. Try holding the first number of a calculation in your head then adding on the remaining number. E.g. if your calculation was 5 + 6 then you’d start on 5 and count on 6,7,8,9,10,11. This is quicker than having to count 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11.

On Friday Mrs Johnson asked you to change the story of ‘Lost and Found’. She suggested you change the characters or the setting. Today I would like you plan out your new story. Make sure you remember to put things in order starting with what happens first, then what happens in the middle and finally what happens at the end.

Forest School Diaries:

How did you get on with your Andy Goldsworthy inspired artwork? I hope you managed to take a picture of it. If so have a look at the picture (or try and remember what it looked like). Write a sentence about your artwork. What did you use? What shape is it? What is your favourite bit and why?

PE:

We have PE on a Wednesday afternoon so try and get up and about and get active. Set yourself a challenge – how many starjumps can you do? Can you hop 20 times in one minute? Try to challenge the adults in your house to get involved too!

Today we will be talking about what we are thankful for. The past couple of weeks we have been talking about how Christian’s believe that God created the World, and that they are very thankful. Draw a picture of what you are thankful for and write a sentence about it.

At Forest School today we will be looking at the artist Andy Goldsworthy. He uses natural materials to make pieces of art. Have a look at his art work and have a go at creating a piece of your own.

Maths:

Today you will be practising your adding using a tens frame (this is a rectangle split into ten sections – we use them in class to help children visualise the numbers.). Cut out the ten frogs. Then place some on the lily pads and some in the water. So if you had 5 frogs on the lily pads and three frogs in the water how many would you have altogether? Change the number of frogs you use each time. Get an adult at home to play along with you.

Listen to the story of ‘Lost and Found’. See if you can retell the story to an adult at home. Use the stick puppets to help you act it out. Think about what happened first, what happened in the middle and what happened last.

SPELLINGS – CAN 15.10.20

ENGLISH – If you were going to change the story ‘Lost and Found’, what could you change? For example, you might have a polar bear instead of a penguin, or a girl rather than a boy. Where would they go on their adventure? Talk about your ideas with an adult at home. Draw three boxes, and in box 1 draw or write what might happen at the beginning of your story. In box 2, what will happen in the middle of the story and in box three what will happen at the end of your story. You don’t need to write much detail, just notes, as you will use these ideas in more detail next week. An adult can write your ideas for you too.

MATHS – Today you can finger paint to try and remember all the different ways you found yesterday to make 10! You will need to print or draw lots of ladybirds to record all the different ways to make 10.

GOLDEN TIME – on a Friday afternoon, the children choose and activity from class to revisit, something they really enjoyed doing and would like to try again. We also play outside and have lots of fun. What are you going to choose for Golden Time?
