Yesterday, the Year 1 & 2 children in Hedgehog Class learnt how to use a hacksaw as part of their learning about measuring and cutting materials in Design and Technology. We talked through all of the safety aspects of using a hacksaw and then had a go. They all did some absolutely fantastic listening and everyone was able to safely and successfully cut some small pieces of wood. Well done team!
The children in Hedgehog Class enjoyed a breaktime (in the shade as much as we could) in our play area this afternoon. We got lots of water out to cool us down!

We then made our own little birds from collage materials – just like the hummingbirds that live in Jamaica. Year 2 children have also made a friendship bracelet out of red, gold and green thread, significant colours to Rastafari people living in Jamaica.
As it is our World Turtle / Oceans Day in school today too, we also made collage turtles as there are four different types of sea turtles living in the seas around Jamaica – green turtle, the loggerhead, hawksbill, and leatherback turtles.
As it was so hot the children enjoyed an ice pop after morning break and lots of extra water.

The children in Hedgehog Class had a brilliant day at Whittington Castle today. The children took part in lots of different activities and had lots of fun. They were impeccably behaved and we are so proud of them. Thank you Hedgehog Class!
⭐️ JUBILEE FUN RUN TOTAL ⭐️We’re excited to be able to announce the total raised from the jubilee sponsored fun run held at school just before the half term holiday!! You all raised a total of £731.50 and thanks to all those that completed the gift aid sponsor forms, Mrs Aspinall placed a claim with the HMRC for a further £176.63 in gift aid. Therefore, the TOTAL for the fun run is:
£908.13!!!! 😁.

Yesterday, the children in Hedgehog Class learnt about the Jamaican national flower which is called a “Lignum Vitae”. “Lignum Vitae” is a Latin name meaning “Wood of Life”. It is a short tree, native to tropical America and the West Indies. It has blue flowers and orange-yellow fruit. The Lignum Vitae is also a very useful tree as it has medicinal properties!
After we had learnt lots of new information about the Jamaican national flower, we then did some sketches of it. The children then did these sketches into some polystyrene tiles, used rollers to cover them in block paint and then printed them on to some paper. We can’t wait to get these displayed in school!
What a way to start the day! Hedgehog Class are carrying on with their Jamaican arts week theme and starting their day by joining in with some Jamaican dancing! Click the link below to see the dancing…
Today in Maths, the Reception children had a teddy bear’s picnic. They were learning how to share objects into equal groups. Mrs Farmer gave them a certain amount of food and they had to share them equally between all of the teddy bears that were at the picnic. There was some fantastic mathematical problem solving and reasoning going on during this session. Well done team!
It was just wonderful to see the school grounds filled with so many people enjoying the Village Jubilee Celebrations on Saturday. On behalf of the school, we would like to say a huge well done and thank you to the organisers for bringing everyone together – this includes our Chair of Governors, Keith Lister, and his wife Alyson. Alyson also continues to help keep our sensory garden which many people commented on as we all enjoyed the school grounds in the sunshine. We thank you both. We enjoyed a delicious Jubilee Picnic on the last day of half term – the sun shone as we replenished our energy levels after the Fun Run! As you can see; it was red, white and blue with smiles all round!
