Winston’s Wish is a fantastic charity which supports children and young people through bereavement. They have released the information in the link below for any parents and carers who wish to know more about how to support their children following the death of the Queen. Please do contact school if you would like any further support in this.

Homegrown Show this Sunday!
Message from the friends.
Hi All, welcome back to the new term. We all hope you had a lovely summer and are settling in well to the new term. The Friends look forward to meeting all our new parents (and will organise an event to meet everybody very soon). In the meantime please can we draw your attention to the village Home Grown Show happening this Sunday at 2.30pm at the village hall. We very much hope you will come along to support the show and all of the children of St John have got artwork on display at the show that they created last term under the theme “the commonwealth”. It will be being judged and winners chosen on the day. I’m sure your children will love to see it on display for everyone and be proud to show it off to you too. Please do come along if you can make it. We look forward to seeing you there. The Friends.
Queen Elizabeth II
At St John the Baptist C.E Primary School we are all deeply saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
We shall remember her service through our learning and Worship, and consider how as our Queen she was the embodiment of, and a role model for, our school values of Love, Hope and Respect. We will be thankful for the times that we have been able to come together as a community to celebrate Royal jubilees, birthdays and weddings.
Our thoughts and prayers are with our new King, Charles III, along with the wider Royal Family as they mourn the loss of a beloved mother and grandmother.
Welcome to Hedgehog Class!
Welcome to all of our new Reception children that are joining us for their very first year in school! We hope that you’ve all had a fantastic summer and that you are looking forward to the start of your adventure with us. We’re all very excited to be back and we can’t wait to start getting to know all of the children and parents that have joined us this year.
Please find a newsletter below to find out what is going on in Hedgehog Class this term. We’ve also attached our topic planners so that you know what your child/children will be learning about this term.
As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with myself or Mrs Johnson.
DT – Structures
This term, the Year 1 & 2 children in Hedgehog Class have been learning about making strong structures. They’ve learnt new skills such as using a hacksaw and consolidated their learning from last term on safely using a glue gun. This morning, they have been busy making their toy castles, concentrating on making a structure that will be strong enough to be played with. This afternoon, they will complete their finishing techniques to make them look even better and then evaluate their final product. They can’t wait to take them home tomorrow already!
Hedgehog Class Camping Day
The children in Hedgehog Class have had a brilliant day, taking part in lots of activities for ‘Camping Day’. The children laughed, played, sang, got soggy and ate treats. I’m sure they will be tired tonight!
You can see by their smiles just what fun we all had. Thank you to everyone who sent in things for us to use too.
Mrs Johnson 🙂
Year 2 Maths Morning
On Wednesday the Year 2s went to Corbet for a morning of Maths organised by a group of Year 8 children. There were lots of fun activities and they all had a brilliant time!
Dragonfly Class Transition Day Art
We had a brilliant afternoon of art in Dragonfly Class today. We used fabric to make a collage square. Super cutting and collage skills everyone!
Nettle Soup!
Yesterday at forest school, the Reception, Year 1 & 2 children had a fantastic time making some nettle soup! They used the nettle nippers that they made from wood last week to pick some nettles and then cooked them with the rest of the ingredients in a pan on the camp fire. What a clever bunch they are! We were so proud of all of the children for trying the soup, even if they weren’t too sure on what it would taste like. A few of them even asked for seconds!
