Good Morning Hedgehogs!

I hope you had a lovely Easter, and you didn’t eat too much chocolate!

I’m Miss Horton (some of you might remember me when I came to see you and we went to forest school, but it seems like a long time ago now!). I’ll be teaching you while Mrs Farmer has some time off to have her baby. I was really looking forward to seeing you all again and hopefully we’ll be back in the classroom together soon. You might have to bear with me while I get to grips with all the online websites but this work should keep you busy for now!

Exercise:  Make sure you’re doing some exercise to keep your brain and body active! You could try Joe Wicks or Oti Mabuse (from Strictly Come Dancing) does daily dance lessons on her Youtube channel – lots of fun! Remember to try and get some fresh air and enjoy this lovely sunshine.

Phonics: Reception: ‘sh’ Roll and Read  – Roll a dice, see if you can read the words that the number on the dice matches up to on the sheet.

Year 1: ‘y’ Board Game (you can play this on your own or you can challenge somebody else in your house to play!) – Each player takes it in turns to roll a dice. If you land on a word, read the word. If you say the word correctly, you get a token. When all players have reached the finish the player with the most tokens is the winner.

Handwriting: Reception: Practise writing 2 of the one-armed robot letters. Use the video to help you see what the letters should look like. Can you think of any words that start with these letters?

Year 1:  Please practice writing the following words: today, of, said, says, are, were. Try doing ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check’ – look at the word, say it out loud, cover it up, have a go at writing it and then check if it is correct. You could get an adult or an older brother/sister to test you!

English: Have a look at these pairs of sentences. Can you think of a way to join them together?

Daisy drew a mouse. Daisy gave him a name

Let’s put the craft things in tins. Let’s put the pencils in pots.

Then the rain had gone. Then the room had gone too.

Soon they were sticking stars on the sofa. Soon they were sticking fishes on the floor. Soon they were sticking monkeys on the fireplace.

E.g. Daisy drew a mouse and gave him a name.

Can you see what word I added and what word I took away? See if you can follow the rules that I used to write out the other sentences. Remember that your sentence should start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. Reception if you are struggling with the reading/writing get and adult to write out the sentences for you and cut them out, you can choose where the word should go to join the sentences together and which word you should cross out.

Maths: These links should take you to the correct page for each year group. We’re starting from ‘Summer Term – Week 1 w/c 20^th April’. There is a video/powerpoint for you to watch and then an activity/worksheet to complete. They sometimes give you ideas of some extra things you could do.

Happy Friday Hedgehogs!

I’m sure you are looking forwards to Easter, and the next two weeks would have been your ‘Easter holiday’. We won’t be setting any home learning tasks during the holiday period, but you can revisit the tasks you have been set over the last two weeks and carry out any you missed or repeat those that you really enjoyed!

Don’t eat too many chocolate eggs and Easter sweets!

Phonics

Please think about the phonics you did yesterday on Education City. You can do it again if you wish before carrying out todays task…

Year 1 – can you put the tricky words from yesterday in to a sentence?

Reception – can you play ‘eye spy’ with a grown up? What sound does the object you can see start with? Can you write the letter to match the sound?

English

Use the photographs you took yesterday to write down the instructions for the task you did. Ask an adult to help you if you aren’t sure – you can write the sentences together perhaps.

Don’t forget to start a new line for each new part of the instruction.

Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end it with a full stop.

Use words such as first, then, next, after that, finally, lastly etc to start your sentences.

Maths

Year 1 – your multiplication lesson is set up on MyMaths

Reception – Collect some objects from around your house. Can you make a number line with them? Put 1 object in its own set first, then 2 in the next set, then 3 in the next set, all the way up to 10 and beyond! Can you write the numeral to go with each set of objects? What would happen if you joined two sets together? for example if you joined the set 3 and 1 together, how many would you have altogether?

Yoga

Todays yoga is based on the story ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’.

Golden Time

I hope you enjoyed playing a board game together with someone in your house last week. It would be lovely if you made time every Friday afternoon to play a board game with other people in your house please. If you don’t have a board game, I’m sure you can find virtual games to play together online or to print out (www.twinkl.co.uk have some good ones) and you might even have board games for your Xbox or PlayStation!

Take photos on a phone, ipad or a camera of you or someone in your house doing an every day task (such as laying the table for dinner, doing the washing or making a drink of juice). Can you say the instructions out loud as you carry out the different steps of the task? For example…

First get a glass.

Next open the cupboard.

Take out the bottle of juice.

Take the top off the juice.

After that pour some juice in to the glass.

Then turn the tap on and fill the glass with water.

Lastly turn the tap off and put the bottle away.

Music

Maths

Today I’d like everyone to spend some time on NumberGym to keep their mental maths skills ticking over. Start on level 1 (or wherever you last got to) on bond builder and see how many levels you can achieve lightening fast on!

English

The forecast isn’t quite as warm and sunny this week as it was last week but that doesn’t stop you from getting outside for some fresh air! Go for a walk with your household or spend some time on your bikes/scooters. If you aren’t going outside today there are some fantastic free online videos to help you get some exercise. Joe Wicks has been doing some great PE lessons for you to join in with at home!

Remember that we’ve also got our project grid for you to chose some activities from if you wish.

Phonics

Think about the sounds you were learning about yesterday on Education City.

Can you write your own lists of words with those sounds in them?

Reception – words starting with c or k

Year 1 – words with the split digraph o-e. This can be the long o-e sounds as in home and the short o-e sound as in come.

Reading

Pick up your favourite story book that you have at home. Which is your favourite part of the story? Why? Can you read that page, and draw a picture to show me what happened?

Maths

Today you have an activity on My Maths all about capacity.

English

Reception – Write a simple sentence on a strip of paper. If you are stuck for ideas, look around you! For example, you might write ‘The flowers are yellow’ ,  ‘My dog is called Stan’ or ‘I am going to help my Mum get dinner’. Cut up the sentence and mix up the word order. Challenge someone in your house to put the sentence back together again.

This activity is similar to the one you did yesterday.

If you find it hard to write/read the words, ask a grown up to do it for you and stick to short sentences. You can help to put the words in the right order and work together as a team!

Year 1 – Can you write a sentence with the verb missing and see if someone at home can suggest what the missing verb might be? Think about the sentences you did on the worksheet yesterday to give you some ideas of what you could write. Can they write a sentence for you to add the missing verb? Who is the best sentence writer?!

Yoga

In Hedgehog Class, we love Cosmic Yoga and take part in this every Friday afternoon. Please find a yoga video to do together on Cosmic Yoga’s website. I’m sure parents will love it too!

Golden Time

You have had a very busy and different week. Celebrate how amazing you and your family are by playing a board game together – snakes and ladders, frustration or kerplunk – any family board game will be lovely. Enjoy spending time together and remember how brilliant you all are.

Make sure that you also get some exercise! There are lots of videos out there on YouTube to help you keep active but also try to get outside as well. Go for a walk or for a bike ride to get some fresh air. The forecast is looking great this week so make the most of it!

Remember that Miss Whit has also set up a house tournament on TT Rockstars as well for Years 1-6 so if you want to join in with this please have a go!

NumberGym is a great resource for keeping your mental maths sharp. Bond builder is particularly useful for you to use – see how many lightening fasts you can get throughout your time away from school!
