Hedgehogs Home Learning – Monday 17th May

Good Morning Hedgehogs 🙂

I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend! It was lovely to speak to some of you and your parents last week. It sounds like you’ve all been busy doing lots of fun activities at home, from gardening to learning to ride your bikes! I’ve had a visit from a chaffinch, it keeps tapping and flying into the window – I think it thinks it’s reflection is another chaffinch! It woke me up at 5am on Saturday morning!

Chaffinch video

It’s beak must be getting a bit sore! If you have any ideas on how to stop it, I’d love to hear them!!

Phonics:

This link will take you to the phonics lessons. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw/featured

Reception, your lesson will be uploaded at 10am. Year 1s, your lesson will be uploaded at 10:30am. If you feel like you need a bit of extra practice there is another lesson at 11:00am that focuses on blending sounds. After they have been uploaded the videos are available to view at any time throughout the day.

If you’re struggling to concentrate for the full video, try doing it in sections and have a break between each bit.

English:

We’re going to try something a bit different this week, I hope you like it!

Reception: This week your activities will be focussed on Jack and the Beanstalk. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/english/plant-a-seed-reception-wk5-1 Click ‘Start Lesson’ and then click play on the video. The teacher on the video will give you instructions from there.

Year 1: Your activities will be about information texts – starting with a “Terrifying T-Rex!” https://www.thenational.academy/year-1/english/terrifying-t-rex-year-1-wk5-1 Click ‘Start Lesson’ and then click play on the video. The teacher on the video will give you instructions from there.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/science-ks1-ks2-ivys-plant-workshop-what-do-plants-need-to-survive/zkw2gwx

See how much you can remember from the video and fill in this sheet about what plants need. What do plants need to survive?

If you want to do some extra work, see if you can make your own science experiment. Put one plant somewhere dark, one plant somewhere light and give them both the same amount of water and see which one grows better – which one do you think will survive?

Can you think of another experiment to test what plants need to survive?

Remember you can complete activities from the activity menu anytime you like.

Hedgehogs Home Learning Friday 15th May

Hello Hedgehogs.

What a busy week we have all had home learning. I’m sure you have been enjoying doing some or all of the work Miss Horton and I have put on the school website and that you have also done lots of lovely activities that you have chosen yourself too. Well done! We know it’s really hard to fit everything in to your day sometimes, especially when brothers and sisters and parents have got lots to do too. Thank you for just having a go and we are so proud of you, however much of this work you squeeze in to a busy day.

Have a good weekend

Mrs Johnson

I thought this golf game looked lots of fun. Can you make one, maybe with even more holes! You can choose which numbers you put above each hole. If you don’t have a golf club, you can use any kind of bat or even a stick, and any little ball will work too. Play the game with your family. Make up the rules of the game and see who wins!

Children in Reception spell using the sounds they know as well as remembering some short, everyday words. So the sentence ‘He climbed up the drain’ might be written as ‘He climd up the drayn’. This is ok, and you don’t need to correct every word. Try to encourage children to spell common words correctly, but other words are brilliant just sounded out!

Good Morning Hedgehogs!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and that you had some fun in the sunshine before all the rain!! I’m sure you all enjoyed celebrating VE Day on Friday, I enjoyed it (especially having some delicious cakes!!). I’ve been busy in the garden this weekend, my beetroots are starting to grow now and so are my sunflowers. My friends and I are having a competition to see whose sunflower will grow the tallest so we have to take pictures and send them to each other – fingers crossed mine wins! Are any of you growing sunflowers? Is your sunflower bigger than mine?

Science: Classifying and Grouping Plants. Have a look at this video to see how Ivy sorts her plants into groups,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/science-ks1-ks2-ivys-plant-workshop-classifying-and-grouping-plants/zh9jvk7

She sorts them into four categories:

With seeds:

1) Flowers

2) Conifers

Without seeds:

3) Ferns

4) Mosses

Can you think of a way you might sort the plants in your garden? For example: the number of petals, the shape of the leaf, the colour of the flower.

I had a go with the plants/trees in my garden and sorted them depending on the colour of their petals. I took pictures of plants and sorted them into a table – you could draw the plants if you like (I’m sure you’re all much better artists than me!). You can use the same groups as I have, or you could choose your own.
