All of the children (and staff!) looked amazing in their World Book Day costumes yesterday! They enjoyed listening to various stories throughout the day and loved making their own bookmarks!

Look at this incredible piece of artwork that the children in Hedgehog Class have created this term! They did a study of an artist (Van Gogh) and learnt lots of new skills including using different brushes and brushstrokes and combining materials. Then they all had a part of the Starry Night painting to recreate and we put it together for them. We think the final piece looks amazing!
The Reception and Year 1 children had a fantastic time being very creative at forest school today! Their focus today was weaving using natural materials. They used potato peelers to strip willow which they then used to practise their weaving skills. Look at those faces!
Today during child initiated time, the children learnt how meteors make craters on the moon. They collected stones and made craters in our cornflour moon. They then went outside, put wellies on and pretended to be meteors by jumping into piles of leaves. During free-play, the girls decided to make a stage using the wooden blocks and made up a Space play!
Yesterday the year 1 and 2 children did some fantastic work to start their unit on programming on Scratch. They were all challenged to create a space theme background this week. They learnt to use the fill tool, the paintbrush and how to change the colour they were using. They also learnt some great mouse control!
Look at this fantasic painting the Reception children did in their child initiated time last week! They have been learning about space this term. They used lots of different techniques such as gluing, painting with a brush and printing. They even had to mix their own colours!
Just before Christmas, the year 2 children were learning about habitats and microhabitats. As part of their science learning at forest school, they put some stones in an orange bag, tied it to some string and Kris then carefully put it into the river. This week, it was time to pull the bag out of the river and find out if anything had setup a new home in there. The children found lots of different things including leeches and a freshwater shrimp! We’re going to do the same thing again in the summer term to find out if we find anything different in the warmer weather.
We started a new unit of work in English today. Someone had sent us a message that had been written in code! We talked about different ways of communicating such as using braille, British Sign Language and Semaphore. We then had a look at the key that we been sent. We had great fun using the key to crack the codes for the messages!
Have a look at the fantastic artwork the children in Hedgehog Class did yesterday! This term, they are going to be studying two different artists. They started the unit yesterday by looking at Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and then began developing their own painting skills.
