Autumn 2021 Hedgehogs Overview of activities
The children in Hedgehog Class had an end of term treat yesterday at forest school! Here they are being super sensible, toasting their marshmallows on the camp fire.
The year 1 children have been busy learning about puppets, designing their own puppet and then making them this term. They are so proud of the new skills that they have learnt and rightly so! Here are their final products…
Hedgehog Class had an amazing time at forest school last week! They had to work as a whole class team to build the river Drumbles. They collected as many waterproof materials as possible. They then started from the top of the bank and worked their way downhill to the “lake” that they had made at the bottom. The children had to make a few adjustments to their river as they started pouring the water into it but eventually they managed to make water flow from the top all the way to the bottom! They showed great team work and determination, well done all! 💧💦
The year 1 children were busy yesterday afternoon hunting for different flowers in our school grounds as part of their “Plants” topic in science. They found lots of different flowers and then did some beautiful sketches of some of them.
Here is our finished Key Worker Heroes display using some of the wonderful art that Hedgehog Class did during Arts Week! 🌈 The children did a super job and we think that the final product looks fantastic! Well done all!
The year 1 children have been learning all about puppets in their design and technology lessons this half term. Today they began designing their own hand puppet based on our theme of “food and farming”. They did a fantastic job and even got on to sewing two bits of fabric together today. We can’t wait to finish them off next week!
Following the fantastic video that Miss Whit put together for us, we’ve also got some great photos of Sports Day 2021 to share with you 😊 We’re so proud of all of the children and it was so lovely to see so many happy faces!

Hedgehog Class have been having an amazing week this week and they are in the process of creating some beautiful art work around our theme of “Living on Planet Earth 2020-2021”. For this piece of work, the children were asked to draw a picture of their favourite lockdown memory onto a piece of polystyrene. They then used rollers to cover them in block printing paint and we then printed these onto card. We can’t wait to put them all together to see the final result!
As part of our science topic on Plants and Our Environment, the children were set the challenge of searching for specific trees at our forest school site this week. They were given a list of trees that they had to find as well as a leaf identification chart. The children were amazing at looking at the leaves on the different trees to identify them. They were allowed to pick one leaf from each different type of tree to then peg onto a washing line along with the labels for each tree. They showed amazing care for the environment though and tried to find leaves that had fallen to the ground rather than pick them off the trees!
