Football Skills

Today was our last PE lesson on “Ball Games” for this academic year. Today’s focus was football skills and goal scoring. The children worked very hard in this lesson and we were delighted with the progress they made! Better still, every single one of them scored a goal for Team Hedgehogs!

Our Class Trip to Blue Planet Aquarium

Hedgehog Class had an amazing time at the Blue Planet Aquarium a couple of weeks ago. The children were delighted to get up close to some fantastic under water animals and put some of their recent learning into a real life context. They also enjoyed the habitats workshop where they learnt which animals live in coral reefs, the open ocean and rock pools. What a super day of learning!

Fun in the Sun!

What a wonderful afternoon we’ve had in the outdoor learning area in Hedgehog Class! The children engaged in some beautiful child initiated play today.

Some of the girls enjoyed developing their fine motor and mark making skills with some colouring/drawing…

Other children were exploring mechanisms and capacity in the water tray…

The boys showed an interest in the bug hotel this afternoon and then created their own in the back of a digger…

Some of the children decided to read a story to others…

Some of them did some great writing/drawing outside…

And the rest of them spent a very long time creating and then using a fantastic obstacle course!

A Very Busy Week!

What a busy week we had last week!

On Monday, we carried on practising our ball skills in PE.

On Tuesday, we all joined in with a fantastic dance workshop with Stacey from West End in Schools. We learnt the story “Where the Wild Things Are” and then created our own dance to music.

And then in the afternoon, we made natural labels at Forest School.

On Wednesday, we were busy making pancakes after learning about Shrove Tuesday.

On Thursday, we all looked amazing for World Book Day 2025!

And on Friday, we all had great fun in our role play “Pancake Café”!

Final Gymnastics Lesson

Yesterday, we participated in our final gymnastic lesson of the year. We all enjoyed spending some time on the equipment, showing off what we have learnt this term. Mrs Farmer was so impressed at how well our skills have developed and how much more confident we all are now compared to at the beginning of January!

Safer Internet Day 2025

This year’s Safer Internet Day is focused on not being scammed online. This morning, our Safeguarding School Council did a wonderful assembly for the whole school to raise awareness of staying safe from scams online. Well done team!

Space Makers

We are so pleased to announce that we are using Space Makers at St John the Baptist CE Primary School this year!
We will be using these calming and contemplative techniques to help children build spirituality and mindfulness. We will develop skills of Stilling, Noticing, Dwelling, Mending and Blessings to assist children in navigating the world around them.
Over time we will see children taking the lead in delivering the short sessions with their classmates.
Here is some information about the scheme:
Space Makers is a resource for schools and churches from the Diocese of Oxford. Accessible to pupils of all faiths and worldviews, five contemplative practices help schools to embrace some of the ancient wisdom of the Christian tradition and, in doing so, assist children to navigate the world around them.
Climate anxiety and the vast increase in screen time and exposure to social media seem to be causes of deteriorating mental health in young people.
The ancient contemplative traditions of Christianity, like its secular cousin ‘mindfulness’, have a lot to offer at this time.

Please feel free to share this post…

This is a post that we never imagined we would need to write,😢😢 but after almost 17 months of Lucas waiting for a liver transplant, time is not on his side, and with his consultant stressing to us at our last clinic appointment that children with Hepatopulmonary Syndrome need a transplant sooner rather than later, with no possible way of increasing his priority on the Paediatric register and unable to be placed on the adult register yet as he doesn’t weigh enough, we find ourselves writing this in the hope 🙏 that there may be a generous person🧚 out there who would be willing to help Lucas and save his life, by donating a lobe of their liver as a live liver donor. This is possible because the liver is able to regenerate itself and grow back, usually by 12 weeks following surgery.
For those who don’t know Lucas 👦 he was born with a rare liver disease, and although he remained stable for a few years, his health has rapidly declined over the past few years and it was decided almost 17 months ago that he needed a liver transplant. However donors are becoming less, and with Lucas’s size and his blood group being rarer, his chance of receiving a donor offer is smaller (An offer doesn’t always mean the transplant will go ahead as the surgeon needs the check the organ themselves before deciding that it’s suitable for transplant).
At the moment, a live liver donor is Lucas’s best option. We have explored the option of a live donor within the family but unfortunately no-one is a suitable candidate, so we are now putting out this appeal in the hope of finding someone who would be kind and generous enough to be willing to donate some of their liver to save our little boy’s life, as we are really scared that an offer may not come in time and we will lose him.🥺😭
Please only contact the team if you are serious about being a live liver donor, and meet the following criteria, as going through potential donors is an admin intensive task.
🔹 Blood group must be B or O (this MUST be known prior to contacting team, Eldoncard tests can be purchased via Amazon, eBay etc)
🔹BMI under 30
🔹Under 50 years old
🔹Minimal drinker and no smoking 8 weeks prior to surgery
🔹No significant medical conditions
If you meet the above criteria, and are serious about being a live liver donor for Lucas, you can contact the team by email:
