Dragonfly Class Eco Warriors

Thomas and Devon in Dragonfly Class have been busy taking care of our community by picking up litter over half term.

Thomas picked up a staggering 2kg of litter from just one walk over The Cliffe and is planning to collect more.

Devon has picked up litter from along the Ruyton road to Baschurch and filled at least 7 bags!

We are very proud of their superb efforts to make the world a tidier place.  Well done Thomas and Devon.

Making cast fossils

As part of our work on rocks in Dragonfly Class, we had a go at making our own fossils.

First, we made a mould by pressing shells or dinosaurs into plasticine and placing the mould into a tray.  The next step was for Mrs Hollis to mix up some Plaster of Paris and pour it into the moulded plasticine (she did this when we were out of the room as it can get a little messy and very warm while it is setting).  Finally, the next day, we were able to ‘excavate’ our fossil by removing the plasticine.  The results are brilliant!

School Value—Perseverance

Throughout the month of January, our school value has been perseverance.  We have explored this theme through our worships and this week’s homework is linked to it.  We would like you to complete any activity connected to this value.  You can choose anything that you like but here are some ideas to get you started.  You could:

*Write about a time that you have to persevere.  Why did you carry on and not give up?  How did it make you feel?

*Find out about a famous person i.e. a sportsperson, charity fundraiser etc that has shown perseverance.

*Draw a picture that illustrate what the word perseverance means to you.

These are just a few ideas but please feel free to be as creative as you want around this theme.

Your homework is due in on Wednesday 2nd February.

If you have any queries, please contact Mrs Hollis or Miss Horton.

History:

This term, our new History topic is on The Anglo-Saxons.  Your task this week is to find out at least 5 facts about who they were, where they came from, why they came to Britain and any other interesting facts that you can find.  It is up to you how you would like to present your facts but here are a few suggestions: write the facts in your homework book, make a poster, make a PowerPoint slide or presentation, make a short video clip of you sharing your facts.  If you need a little help getting started, the following link is to a very useful site with lots of information (scroll down to the bottom of the webpage for even more information in different sections).
