Hedgehog Class spellings 22.9.22
Children in Hedgehog Class will be bringing home their spelling books this afternoon. Inside you will find a guide on how to use the books and how spellings and spelling tests are organised each week.
This week your child has single sounds to learn and to recognise the letter for each sound. These are the sounds we have been learning in class for the last two weeks.
The sounds are s, a, t, i.
Please let me know if you aren’t sure about anything!
Thank you, Mrs Johnson
Hedgehog Class Camping Day
The children in Hedgehog Class have had a brilliant day, taking part in lots of activities for ‘Camping Day’. The children laughed, played, sang, got soggy and ate treats. I’m sure they will be tired tonight!
You can see by their smiles just what fun we all had. Thank you to everyone who sent in things for us to use too.

Sunshine Fun
The children in Hedgehog Class enjoyed a breaktime (in the shade as much as we could) in our play area this afternoon. We got lots of water out to cool us down!
Look at all the learning that took place …
Arts week in Hedgehog Class
Today the children have been singing ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley – link here to a children’s cartoon version if you’d like to watch it … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJTTmSYIcyU
We then made our own little birds from collage materials – just like the hummingbirds that live in Jamaica. Year 2 children have also made a friendship bracelet out of red, gold and green thread, significant colours to Rastafari people living in Jamaica.
As it is our World Turtle / Oceans Day in school today too, we also made collage turtles as there are four different types of sea turtles living in the seas around Jamaica – green turtle, the loggerhead, hawksbill, and leatherback turtles.
As it was so hot the children enjoyed an ice pop after morning break and lots of extra water.
What a busy morning!
Whittington Castle
The children in Hedgehog Class had a brilliant day at Whittington Castle today. The children took part in lots of different activities and had lots of fun. They were impeccably behaved and we are so proud of them. Thank you Hedgehog Class!
Year 1 and 2 Hedgehog Class self portraits
Year 1 and 2 children in Hedgehog Class have been creating self portraits as part of their art lessons this term.
The children spent time thinking about colour, shape, texture and proportion and trying out different techniques before creating their self portrait.
Can you guess who is who?!
We have had a very busy half term finding out all about bugs and insects.
We searched for bugs under plants and rocks, to go in our Bug Hotel. We recorded how many different types we found.
It was great fun using watering cans to help Incey Wincey go down the spout. We also got a bit wet too! After finding out how many legs a spider has, we made our own using clay, counting the legs carefully to make sure it had the correct amount.
Using pictures and props we placed them in order to retell the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, then created our own butterfly using paints. We observed that the patterns were the same on each wing when folded on the line of symmetry. Ladybird spots were also stuck into place, counting they had the same amount on each wing.
We learnt how bees are very important for our plants, where they live and what they collect and produce. Of course we tried some honey, spreading it onto some bread.
Our next topic will be People Who Help Us, beginning in September.
I hope you all have a really lovely summer break and look forward to seeing you all, as well as some new faces, in the Autumn Term.
